Permission Settings for Blogs November 23, 2009

Schools all over the world have privacy and security settings for the safety of the students. When a teacher decides to use a classroom blog there are certain precautions the teacher must take in order to ensure the safety of the students and the privacy of the information posted on the blog. This can be taken care of through the permission settings on a blog.  Here is how you change the permission settings on your blog in order to control who can see your blog.

1. The first thing you need to do is sign into your blog account. There are several places you could have created your blog, but for the purpose of this tutorial I will be using blogger.

5. You should see the page below. Change the settings from anybody to only people I choose. By doing this you are only allowing the people you invite to view the blog. This helps with the privacy of the students and allows a safe environment for posting classroom information on the internet.

7. Hit the invite button and the students will receive an email. The screen shot on the bottom is what should show up after you have invited your students. You have the option of inviting them again or of removing the invitation.

After you have completed these steps your permission settings should be set. You will not have to worry about who will see your blog because you have the control of who can view it. Permission settings are very important in a classroom blog. It is imperative to remember that once a school year is over it is wise to remove the permission for the parents and students of the year before to ensure the safety of your current students.
